About Systolic BP

Systolic blood pressure (SBP) is the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats. It is the first number recorded in a blood pressure measurement and is a critical indicator of cardiovascular health. Elevated systolic blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular conditions.

Reference Values

Optimal Range
90 - 120 mmHg
Elite Value
100 mmHg

Health Implications

High
Elevated levels may indicate an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks or strokes due to the excessive pressure on artery walls.
Low
Low levels may be associated with inadequate blood flow to organs, potentially leading to symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, or even shock in severe cases.

Symptoms

High
May include headaches, shortness of breath, and vision problems.
Low
Can include dizziness, fatigue, and fainting.

Lifestyle Factors

Regular cardiovascular exercise Mediterranean diet with high potassium intake Limiting sodium intake to less than 2300 mg per day Practicing mindfulness or yoga for stress reduction Moderate alcohol consumption Quitting smoking.
